What to expect at your appointment
At your first appointment, you will be given a full review, including an examination, by one of the specialists for about 45 minutes. The whole team will then be presented with your case and all the investigations reviewed in front of you with discussion of diagnosis and a management plan formulated with you. You may be required to have some investigations prior to the clinic.
The first appointment may take 90 minutes or longer if a transthoracic echo is required beforehand.
Subsequent follow up appointments will still involve a review by all the specialists but only for about 30 minutes.
We often have students or training specialists present in the clinic, please let us know if you do not wish to be seen by one.
What is the cost of the clinic
The clinic is currently bulk billed for all the specialists. However, due to rising costs and government Medicare funding changes, we will be charging a nominal fee to cover secretarial support in 2023.
What do I need to bring
Please bring your doctors referral and all your investigations as well as a current medication list. We prefer to see the images of all radiological investigations, rather than the reports alone.
How much is treatment
Treatment is usually funded by the government Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. Occasionally we will ask you to self fund a “trial” of medication for 1-3 months (about $70 per month) to see if you respond before commencing long term government funded treatment.
What if I don’t have private insurance?
Patients seen in the clinic are currently bulk billed. If you require public inpatient procedures, then you may be referred to Westmead, Royal North Shore, Concord, St Vincents or Royal Prince Alfred Public Hospitals.
How do I get an appointment
You need to be referred by a specialist or your GP.
